FAQs
PLATO is an AI-powered learning platform that helps you study medical and clinical topics through interactive lessons, conversations, and simulations.
You can talk to AI tutors, explore slides, practice with virtual patients, and check your knowledge at your own pace.
Note: All interactions are with AI models. They may occasionally provide incomplete information — always double-check important details.
How does the AI avatar help me learn?
The avatar works like your virtual tutor. You can ask questions, request explanations, practice scenarios, and get instant feedback.
Which languages can I use?
You can speak to the avatar in Italian or English. It recognizes your language automatically.
Can I talk to the avatar in real time?
Yes. You can speak directly using your microphone, and the avatar will reply instantly.
What questions can I ask?
You can ask about slides, medical concepts, clinical processes, or anything related to the module you’re studying.
Why are slides sometimes not visible?
Patient Simulations are still experimental.
If a slide doesn’t load, ask directly:
“Show slide 2” or “Retrieve slide 2.”
Do avatars behave differently?
Yes. Each avatar (e.g., Dr. Monica, Dr. Botticelli, Patient Amy) is designed for a specific module and topic.
What are PLATO modules?
Modules are self-paced learning units with slides, AI explanations, simulations, and quizzes.
Do I have to complete modules in order?
No. You can explore modules in any order you prefer.
What learning experiences does PLATO offer?
You can access:
• AI-taught presentations
• Patient Case Simulations
• Knowledge Checkers
• Multiple-Choice Questionnaires (MCQs)
What is the difference between the three AI experiences and the MCQ?
PLATO offers three AI learning experiences plus one MCQ activity:
• Presenter: The avatar presents the module slides, explains the content, and asks you questions for active learning.
• Knowledge Tester: The avatar checks your understanding of the module through targeted questions.
• Patient Simulation: You work through a patient case, either by diagnosing a virtual patient or discussing the case with an AI physician.
• Multiple-Choice Questionnaire (MCQ): A self-paced quiz where you can test your knowledge of the module using static, non-randomized questions.
What are Patient Case Simulations?
These simulations recreate real clinical situations. You follow a patient through the diagnostic steps and make decisions along the way.
Are simulations fixed or branching?
The steps follow a fixed sequence, but conversations are open-ended.
Do I get a score?
Yes. Each simulation gives you a score based on your choices and clinical reasoning.
Which clinical areas have patient cases?
Patient cases cover the same clinical themes as the modules.
Virtual patients and doctors use real clinical knowledge to guide you through each case.
When can I take MCQs?
Anytime — they are self-paced.
Are MCQs randomized?
No. Questions stay the same.
How is scoring done?
Only positive scoring.
The goal is self-assessment, not penalties.
How does PLATO evaluate me?
AI analyzes your answers, communication, and clinical reasoning to give you detailed feedback.
What feedback do I receive?
You receive a score, along with your strengths and areas for improvement.
Feedback is provided specifically during Patient Simulations and Knowledge Tester sessions.
Can I retake simulations or quizzes?
Yes. You can repeat them as many times as you want.
What does “My Progress” show?
It tracks your:
• Patient simulations
• Knowledge sessions
• MCQ scores
Can I compare my progress with classmates?
Yes. You can see how you rank compared to the class average.
Is progress shown per module?
Yes. Each module has its own progress and graphs.
How are accounts created?
Accounts are created from a predefined list of students.
Does PLATO store transcripts?
Conversations are saved and stored as described in our Privacy Policy.
They are kept securely and used only for learning and progress-tracking purposes.
Can I download transcripts or notes?
No. Downloading is not supported at this time.
Do I need a microphone?
Yes, for voice conversations. Make sure microphone permissions are enabled.
Should I use headphones?
Yes, for better audio quality.
The avatar is not responding — what can I do?
Try refreshing the page or restarting the voice session.
Slides are not loading — what should I do?
Ask the avatar:
“Show slide X”
If still missing, refresh the page.
My microphone is not working — how do I fix it?
• Check browser permissions
• Make sure no other app is using the microphone
• Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device
